Central Fife MSP Applauds Ambition of Fife Timber Company

Central Fife MSP Tricia Marwick has applauded the ambition of James Donaldson & Sons after the Fife company outlined its growth plans for Scotland and the UK during a site visit.

The Fife MSP was touring the company’s Leven premises where ten jobs are to be created following a £1 million investment in new facilities, including the UK’s largest treatment plant for preventing wood decay.

James Donaldson & Sons recently announced that its turnover had increased by 12.8% to £75.5 million following strong growth across all of its main operating divisions. These include sawmilling company James Donaldson Timber Ltd (JDT), the UK’s largest roof truss manufacturer Donaldson Timber Engineering and timber merchant MGM.

The company has now set its sights on pushing strongly into England as it aims for its 12th successive year of growth.

Tricia Marwick said: “In order to create a strong local economy it is vital that Fife companies continue to set ambitious targets and reap the rewards in the same way as James Donaldson & Sons.”

“The company is one of the oldest family businesses in Fife and under Neil Donaldson, and his team, it is continuing to go from strength to strength. The investment they have made in facilities puts them in an excellent position for on-going expansion, not just in Scotland but across the UK.”

Neil Donaldson said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to show Tricia how we are developing as a business. Thanks to our skilled workforce we have been able to grow strongly and we expect 2007 to be another record year for James Donaldson & Sons.”
