
Welcome to James Donaldson Timber Limited, one of the largest importers and distributors of timber in Scotland handling 100,000m3 per annum.
We (JDT) are part of the James Donaldson Group of companies and are our core activities include:

The emphasis in all cases is on giving customers what they want, when they want it. We are also consistently improving performance via year-on-year profit growth.
We import only quality timber. This is mostly from Scandinavia, and from a chain of long-established quality suppliers with impeccable "green" credentials.
As specialists in softwoods, construction and joinery whitewoods and redwoods, we are able to supply:

- Full packs
- Mixed delivery, and
- Special profiles
In short, a full service that is based on customers' individual requirements and reflects our commitment to service.
COMMITMENT TO SERVICE
As part of our commitment to full customer service all JDT's sales, manufacturing and distribution processes are monitored by state-of-the-art software - Preactor. This system allows full traceability and instant customer information.
In addition, an in-house quality system is in place to guarantee standards of service and quality of goods. But JDT is not complacent about its success and has made a heavy commitment to take the company forward.
COMMITMENT TO THE FUTURE
We have recently completed an investment programme of over £1m to take us a significant step further in our specialist field. JDT Managing Director Scott Cairns explains:
"Our investment was carried out in three phases, and each had a positive effect on the logistics, dynamics and productivity of the site. Now, with a number of profitable years behind us, we have decided to take the company forward into a new sphere of operation."
PHASE ONE
Phase One of our investment programme included a serious "makeover." The site now encompasses:
- A new purpose-built sales and administration office
- Car parking facilities for visitors as well as employees
- New signage, gatehouse facilities and fencing
PHASE TWO
Phase Two of the programme resulted in a 5,000m2 storage and distribution centre. This enabled us to double our stockholding of prepared goods. The centre also now encompasses a fully-covered loading bay which means that products can be loaded and despatched in a clean, dry environment to reach customers in pristine condition every time.
JDT Sales Manager David Seath said:
"Our main focus for this storage/distribution facility was the supply of prepared goods to secondary merchants. This millennium investment was crucial to our ability to guarantee an unmatched ex-stock delivery of PSE and Moulded Softwood to our ever-expanding customer base."
PHASE THREE
The last phase of the programme has increased JDT's productivity through the installation of a fully-automated high-speed moulding line which can handle top quality standard profiles and PSEs, as well as customer-specific profiles.
Through our on-going investment programme we are ensuring that new and existing equipment will deliver a Zero Emission workplace on woodwaste, dust and sawmill residue.
This will be achieved ahead of environmental legislation with the installation of a new state-of-the-art dust extraction system designed and installed specifically for JDT.
